Austin rolls out Airstream - First of its kind trailer kicks off SXSW®

The Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau (Austin CVB) today rolls out its new Austin Airstream trailer, a mobile Visitor Center – vintage 1970s, remodeled and retrofitted for the twenty-first century. The 30 foot trailer serves as an anchor for marquee events and will be used to distribute materials, information and swag about Austin.  It’s also a VIP lounge for media, musicians and meeting professionals. 

 

With some 2,000 award winning food trailers already part of Austin neighborhoods, the Austin Airstream is a rolling tribute to the Live Music Capital of the World®. The remodeled and retrofitted trailer will help promote the capital city as a premiere leisure and convention destination.

 

Austin musicians Dan Dyer and Jesse Ebaugh (Heartless Bastards) were on the demolition and construction team led by Jack Sanders of Design Build Adventure. The team has been working since the beginning of 2012 to get the trailer ready for its unveiling - just in time for South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conferences & Festivals.

 

“This classic Airstream dovetails with Austin’s unique, creative vibe,” said Rose Reyes, director of music marketing  of Austin CVB. “The trailer’s interior has the look and feel of a rock-n-roll tour bus. Musicians will be able to use the space to relax and rejuvenate.”

 

The Airstream interior has been enhanced by woodwork from Collings Guitar, hand etched quotes by famous Austinites and custom hand lettering by legendary Austin sign painter Greg Jones. It’s equipped with Gibson branded bar stools and an Epiphone AJ 220S acoustic guitar for some rocking interviews. Special guests can relax with a beverage from a fully stocked bar, courtesy of Tito’s Vodka and Sweet Leaf Iced Tea.
