Plein Air Austin is pleased to announce the opening of their annual member exhibition showcasing local plein air (outdoor) artists. All 30+ pieces in the show will have either been painted entirely or mostly on site outdoors. The majority of the work will be of scenes in and around Austin.
Each of the featured artists in this show brings a unique perspective in their selection of subject matter, technique, media and styles.
The exhibition in the Corridor of Art, 700 Lavaca (Chase Bank Building) in downtown Austin is free and open to the public. The show runs from Thursday, September 8 through Monday, November 7, 2016 from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday. Those wishing to meet and talk to the artists about their inspiration behind the paintings are invited to attend the artist’s reception on September 8 from 4-6 pm.
The earliest pioneers of painting “en plein air” (French for “in the open air”) began to move out of the studio and sketch the effect of light and color in nature. Following this tradition, the artists of Plein Air Austin meet regularly year round to paint together in various outdoor locations in and around Austin and Central Texas, with an occasional field trip farther away. Subject matter can vary widely, but often include land, city and seascapes, figures, wildlife, flowers, and more. The group is open to all ages and experience levels. More information about the group can be found at www.pleinairaustin.org.
