Plastic is everywhere. Just how omnipresent it has become animates Plastic Planet, the ambitious new exhibition created by multi media artist, Calder Kamin. Not only just a physical object that clutters roadsides and pollutes oceans, plastic has become incorporated into the bodies of all living things. Yet nature is resilient and we all adapt. At what price remains an important question Plastic Planet examines.

Kamin creates a whimsical menagerie of colorful animals crafted entirely of plastic bags: these sculptures include a fox, bobcat, skunk, opossum, deer, and coyote. The animas are playfully rendered yet that they are literally made of plastic suggests a more ominous reality.

Knowing that art provides an aesthetic experience but can be a powerful tool to inform and educate viewers as well, Kamin has also created an actual classroom reminiscent of the mid 1990’s of her childhood and placed it in the gallery near the sculpture. Amidst her illustrations, Kamin will lead multiple education programs for adults and children that will examine nature’s adaptability and the advantages and dangers this creates
