Elizabeth Chapin: Careful/Uncareful

A native of Mississippi, Chapin's portraits are infused with a sense of nostalgia as well as pop culture. Unexpected color and bold patterns come together to quite literally create the picture of a person-and at times a generation. Like the work of Alice Neel, her use of the direct gaze and a loose but expressive line is captivating. All at once playful, serious and amorous, Chapin's portraits are not to be missed.

Chapin was trained at Parsons School of Design, Cleveland Institute of Art and The University of Virginia. This is her second solo show in Austin, Texas where she resides with her husband and two children.
