Join UT Libraries for a night of gruesomely, funny laughs and clever conversation with a screening and discussion of the Spanish-Cuban film "Juan of the Dead. "
Written and directed by Alejandro Brugués, the “zombie comedy Juan of the Dead is set in present day Havana, where people are rising from the dead and devouring the flesh of the living. State run media dismisses them as dissidents hired and paid for by the U.S. government. After fending off several of the dead, Juan and his friends and family realize these are not ordinary humans but zombies. Deciding to take advantage of the situation and sell their services to people who need to dispose of zombified loved ones, “Juan de los muertos, matamos a sus seres queridos., Juan and company battle their way around Havana until the dead overrun the city and the gang is forced to try to find a way to escape.
Following the screening, a discussion will be lead about the film and Cuban cinema.
