"Great fun on a mindless, adolescent level." - Leonard Maltin

Maltin intends some slight disrespect with "mindless" and "adolescent," but we're here to suggest that that's a good part of what makes HEAVY METAL so outrageously fun. What's so wrong with being mindless and adolescent sometimes? Mindless adolescents brought us such staples of modern society as punk rock and masturbation! These two topics in particular were probably on the mind of the target demographic for Heavy Metal magazine, the pages of which were full of violent sci-fi and weird fantasy stories with occasional tilts towards the erotic. Producer Ivan Reitman (GHOSTBUSTERS, etc) keeps the spirit of the magazine alive in this fantastically animated and decidedly juvenile anthology. He even brought along some of his Canadian pals like John Candy and Eugene Levy to provide voices. Gory, strange, full of generously endowed characters, and scored by an eclectic, but safe mix of rock and rollers ranging from Devo to Black Sabbath, HEAVY METAL is a one of a kind odyssey through the brain of a 14-year old hesher. Buckle up!
