Think.Do.Make Exhibit Opening

02-02-2013 to 02-02-2013 - Austin Children's Museum's new feature exhibit, Think.Do.Make, opens Saturday, Feb. 2 and is an exciting sneak preview of concepts for the new museum coming to Mueller late this year. Think.Do.Make, is a fresh mix of science and engineering learning experiences, served up with a creative twist of art, invention and design/build challenges.

The new feature exhibit invites visitors of all ages to ask questions, test ideas and discover new connections. Think.Do.Make has three components: Nano - cutting edge science smaller than you can see, Build - design secrets of nature's architects, and Flow - playful invention launched by the power of moving air.

!Sieze the Garage! - Stair Climbs - Workout Flash Mob - Wednesday @ 6:30 AM

12-05-2012 to 12-05-2012 - Join us! Everyone - girls, boys, elite athletes, newbies... Check out www.roamfitmovement.com ... we are a $0 Cost 6:30am Workout Mob, meeting every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. WHY? Well...A few months before our very first workout, we each realized that what we were doing wasn't working. Working out solo was not fun, nor motivating. Waking up early was hard. Paying to be a part of a gym/class was getting too expensive. Why weren't there any options that were free, fun, and really challenging? So we banded together, and created a formula that proved successful. We created a social movement that mixed the following elements: - social / peer pressure - early morning / pre-real-world-job meeting time- quick, effective, challenging, and fun workouts- and making everything SIMPLE..... and with that, the roamfit Movement was born. We now had motivation to get our a$$es to each workout each morning, so we didn't want to let our squad-mates down. The quick and early nature of the workouts made is super easy to fit them into our busy work schedules. The challenging workouts, mini-races, and record keeping kept us going strong as we benchmarked against ourselves and our peers. Most of all: a community was born, creating support and encouragement for each member to achieve their goals. The formula proved successful, and continues to do so.Come and join the movement ASAP - start by follow our tweets, and liking us on Facebook. That way you'll get exact meetup times and locations as they change weekly.

"Visitors" Opening Reception

05-24-2013 to 05-24-2013 - May 24th through June 9th, 2013
The opening reception will be held May 24th from 6 to 9 pm
A panel discussion will be held on May 30th at 8 pm
“Visitors” will feature new works by Caroline Wright, Leon Alesi and Rino Pizzi. The artists frame and make use of the patina of marks left around the studio, in an attempt to save what is otherwise ephemeral. The resulting works are mysterious, humorous, abstract, and telling about the life of a space. Wright’s invitation to these two photographers to appropriate any aspects of her studio or the work therein raises questions of ownership, while smoothly translating one medium into another in a retelling of the same events.
Caroline Wright is a painter, cellist, and native Austinite. She majored in Art and Art History at Brown University, started her art career in Paris, and returned to Austin in 2006. Wright has enjoyed collaborating with musicians, dancers, and filmmakers, including a collaborative performance with Ballet Austin dancers as part of the Califa Arts Collaborative. Wright is represented by Martine Chaisson Gallery in New Orleans and Navillus Gallery in Toronto, Ontario. In 2012, she was a finalist for Best 2D Artist in the Austin Visual Arts Awards.
Leon Alesi is a photographer living and working in Austin, Texas. He has most recently participated in two solo shows in San Francisco and Fort Collins. Alesi has been featured in Fraction Magazine in March 2011 and New Directions’ Best in Show, 2011.
Rino Pizzi is an Italian photographer and collaborative artist with a recent focus on developing projects that are based on his photographic portraiture. Object of Affection was published in 2009, followed by The Mona Lisa Project, a collaborative project with 16 female artists, that was exhibited at the Austin Museum of Art and the Grand Rapids Art Museum in 2011, and at the People’s Gallery in 2012. His current project, transFIGURATION, is a collaboration with 12 visual artists that includes a series of performances and happenings, many of which were presented by the Fusebox Festival 2013
Gallery hours will be held on May 25th from 12 to 5 pm and by appointment.

2 Pistols

05-26-2013 2 Pistols
The hard street life addressed in the raps of 2 Pistols stems from a turbulent childhood. Born Jeremy Saunders in the Tarpon Springs area of Florida, Jeremy spent most of his childhood without his parents, who were in jail, leaving aunts and older brothers to raise him. He was involved in the drug game by his teens, which seemed a more stable gig since his hopes of becoming a pro football player had been crushed due to his smaller stature. He eventually landed in prison, but an earlier impromptu battle where 2 Pistols destroyed an established local rapper was on his mind the whole time. He decided that when he was released from prison he would devote all of his energy, time, and money to becoming a professional rapper. Upon release, he began realizing his goals, first as a promoter of Tampa area hip-hop concerts and then as the head of Blood Money Union, a loose crew featuring DJs, producers, and rappers from the area. By 2007 he was ready to begin his own career, and did so with some high-profile friends. With the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League as producers and T-Pain plus Tay Dizm as guests, 2 Pistols debuted with the single "She Got It," released in 2008 by the Universal label.

2012 Rock 'n Roll Hall of Famer: Ian McLagan & The Bump Band @ 6 pm

01-24-2013 to 01-24-2013 - Ian McLagan is a genuine, dyed-in-the-wool rock’n’roller. In fact, his smiling visage — he was, after all, a member of the Small Faces and the Faces— would serve as an ideal illustration in the proverbial Dictionary of What Is Truly Cool.
The man known to his many mates and even more fans and admirers as
‘Mac’ is the sort who shrugs off such puffery. And then he just carries
on creating splendid and genuine rock’n’roll with his Bump Band as well
as musically aid and abet a marquee line-up of truly blue ribbon talent
that he has toured and recorded with: The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Taj Mahal, John Hiatt, David Lindley, Paul Westerberg, Billy Bragg and Patty Griffin, to name some but hardly all of the notables that McLagan has worked with over his four-plus decade career.Since McLagan moved to Austin in 1994, the Bump Band has come to include some of the city’s best players: ‘Scrappy’ Jud Newcomb, one of Austin’s busiest and best guitarists (The Resentments, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Beaver Nelson), drummer Don Harvey, whose resume boasts putting the big beat behind Martha Davis, Joe Ely, and Charlie Sexton; and bassist Jon Notarthomas
(Aimee Bobruk, Craig Marshall). Those not fortunate to catch McLagan
& the Bump Band on tour or, when home, in their weekly residency at
Austin’s Lucky Lounge can enjoy their magic on the CD Bump Live, which All Music Guide hailed as “the first real rock & roll record to be released in 2006.”Show starts at 6 pm. As always, No Cover

06-03-2013 The Flatwater Foundation is proud to announce its 4th Annual Dam That Cancer event presented by Tyler’s on with all proceeds to benefit the foundation. Mark Garza and Rob McKinnie, two Austinites touched by cancer, created the 21-mile dam-to-dam stand-up paddleboard event to spread the message that mental health is vital when overcoming a cancer diagnosis. Garza, a local Marketing Executive and Event Producer, was driven to put his professional background to use for this cause when hearing about his father’s diagnosis of stage-4 prostate cancer. He said, “It goes beyond those that receive a diagnosis, cancer changes the lives of family and friends too. My father's diagnosis hit me hard and I felt helpless until now. Dam that Cancer is my stand against this ominous killer and a way to spread our message." For more information, photos and video, please visit Dam That Cancer on Facebook @Dam That Cancer, Twitter @damthatcancer, online at http://flatwaterfoundation.org/damthatcancer, or e-mail info@flatwaterfoundation.org. About The Flatwater FoundationThe Flatwater Foundation is dedicated to providing those diagnosed with cancer, their families and loved ones access to mental health therapy and family support. This includes access to traditional methods of psychological counseling, as well as an integrated approach to wellness via access to yoga, meditation, group exercise and personal training.
