The National Park in Austin's Backyard celebrates the life and legacy of Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th President of the United States. From his ancestors' first cabin on the Texas frontier to the famed "Texas White House," still Lady Bird Johnson's home, it's all still here in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, less than one hour from Austin.

Begin your day trip at the National Park Visitor Center, located in Johnson City, 2 blocks south of U.S. Highway 290. The Center is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. View two movies about the Johnson Administration and Ladybird Johnson, re-live the 1960s in the permanent exhibit gallery, and enjoy special displays in the temporary gallery.

One block away is the LBJ boyhood Home. The house is furnished in early 1920s style, guided tours are offered every half hour from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Outdoors, stroll down the nature trail to the Johnson Settlement, where LBJ's grandparents homesteaded in the 1860s and 70s. Everything in the Johnson City part of the park is free of charge. Fourteen miles west of Johnson City lies the LBJ Ranch, where park rangers are your guides as you see the ranch that was the Lyndon Johnson's proud homeplace. The ninety-minute tour also includes viewing of the Junction School, the LBJ Birthplace, the "Texas White House” - the big ranch house on the river that is still Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson's home, and the Johnson Family Cemetery. Tours of the Ranch depart from the Visitor Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week. Fees for the Texas White House tour are $3.00 for ages 18+ and free for guests 17 and under. Special events are offered throughout the year.
