Austin’s famed MEAN EYED CAT is a bar like no other. Set away, yet close, to the activities of downtown Austin, it is unabashedly what Texas’ capital city is all about, and has been a staple of local life ever since 2004. Featuring an excellent draft selection of local and craft beers, in addition to a full bar and creative cocktail list, patrons enjoy the interior rooms – a homage to the great Johnny Cash – and the open wooden patio, which is sheltered under an immense, 300+ year old Texas Live Oak. Stubb’s world famous Texas BBQ is available, with an assortment of delicious sides. The building once was the home to the Cut-Rite chainsaw repair shop, and this too is celebrated throughout the interior, with chainsaws and blades evident in the décor. When the establishment was converted into a bar by former owner Chris Marsh, in tribute to his father, and also to the primary musical influence introduced to him early in life, the bar was dubbed “The Mean Eyed Cat”, after the Johnny Cash tune. Portraits, posters, vinyl album copies and all varieties of Cash memorabilia festoon the entire building, in and out.
