Austin CVB Names New Board Chairman

The Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau announces the election of Glenn West as Chairman of the Board for the bureau's governing body. West, a senior vice president with Guaranty Bank, has served on the board for two years. He assumes the chairman's position from Dr. Bill Farney, executive director of the University Interscholastic League.   (more)

Convention & Visitors Bureau Responds to Capital Area Food Bank Call For Help

With Central Texas continuing to feel the effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the need for donations to the Capital Area Food Bank has reached a critical level. As a result, the staff of the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau is donating time and food to the Capital Area Food Bank, which provides food to 400 non-profit groups and churches in 21 area counties.   (more)

Convention & Visitors Bureau Forms New Austin Sports Commission

Taking advantage of Austin’s national reputation as a prime fitness and recreation destination, the new Austin Sports Commission, under the purveyance of the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, aggressively recruits professional, collegiate and amateur sporting events to the city. With the support of the local business community, hospitality industry, event organizers and athletic associations, it also serves as the central clearinghouse for efforts to grow and provide additional support to existing major events.  (more)
