Austin CVB Offers Exclusive Spoon Travel Package

Indie band Spoon visits the Live Music Capital of the World® July 9-11, performing three shows at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q, each with a different opening act. The Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau offers exclusive access to discounted concert tickets, goodies from Stubb’s and hotel accommodations through a Spoon travel package available only at www.austintexas.org/visitors/special_offers.  (more)

Finalists Announced in Inaugural Austin Song Contest

Starting today, Austin music fans across the globe are invited to vote for one of five finalists to win the inaugural Austin Song Contest. Voting continues through May 5, and takes place online at www.austintexas.org. The winner will be announced at Austin CVB’s Annual Luncheon at the Hilton Austin on May 8th.  (more)

Kings of the Evening: Special Screening Tonight Cast and Crew Available for Interviews

The Austin Film Commission, a division of the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Austin Film Festival host a special screening of Kings of the Evening tonight at the Galaxy Highland 10 Cinema. Members of the public can attend the free screening by registering online at www.austinfilmfestival.com. Space is limited and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Austin City Limits Festival Weekend Scores a Hit for Austin Economy

The Live Music Capital of the World® prepares for the sixth annual Austin City Limits Music Festival, September 14-16. Sold-out crowds are expected to descend upon Zilker Park and generate more than $27 million economic impact for the city. Event organizer C3 Presents reports that music fans from outside of Austin purchased more than 50 percent of the three-day passes and as much as 65 percent of one-day tickets to this year’s event. The festival, recognized among the top outdoor music concerts in the country, brings nearly 60,000 visitors to the city, contributing to a lucrative weekend for Austin-area hotels and businesses.   (more)

Austin Names Official Drink in Honor of Urban Bat Colony

Austin comes alive at night. Music echoes from nearly 200 venues, the scent of smoky barbecue fills the air, and from April through October, more than a million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge nightly from underneath the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. The city renowned for these diverse attractions has combined two of its most unique – the bats and Austin’s own Tito’s Handmade Vodka (founded, fittingly, by a man named Tito Beveridge) – to inspire local bartenders to create recipes and compete for exclusive rights to serve the “Batini: The Official Drink of Austin.”  (more)

The city known for live music and listed among the “top cities for Hispanics to live and work,” celebrates Latino Music Month throughout May. The City of Austin features Latino artists as part of "Live from the Plaza" noon concert series every Friday at City Hall, at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and during weekly Austin City Council meetings. A number of special showcase are produced during the month, and many local clubs and venues book Latino artists.   (more)

Austin Tunes Up For Free Showcases During SXSW

The Live Music Capital of the World® prepares for more than 30,000 film, music and interactive executives, artists and fans to converge on the city during South by Southwest (SXSW), one of the world’s foremost multimedia industry conferences, from March 9-18. The conference boosts the local economy by some $38 million in economic impact. While many of the scheduled events are open only to conference attendees and ticket holders, the city shows its support of the music industry with free live music performances at the Austin Visitor Center, City Hall’s outdoor plaza and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, where musicians entertain on three stages throughout the week.   (more)
