Driskill Hotel Wins 2010 Batini Contest

AUSTIN, TX-Like the city itself, Austin's new signature cocktail is cool, colorful and easy to enjoy. The Driskill Hotel's "The Brazos Brasiliensis Batini" uses local ingredients and unique presentation – it's garnished with a hibiscus flower and blackberry to resemble a bat – to capture the flavors of Austin and celebrate the city's most unique attraction, the 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats that fly from the Congress Avenue Bridge each night.  (more)

Finalists Announced in Inaugural Austin Song Contest

Starting today, Austin music fans across the globe are invited to vote for one of five finalists to win the inaugural Austin Song Contest. Kings of the Evening: Special Screening Tonight Cast and Crew Available for Interviews

The Austin Film Commission, a division of the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Austin Film Festival host a special screening of Kings of the Evening tonight at the Galaxy Highland 10 Cinema. Members of the public can attend the free screening by registering online at www.austinfilmfestival.com. Space is limited and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Austin City Limits Festival Weekend Scores a Hit for Austin Economy

The Live Music Capital of the World® prepares for the sixth annual Austin City Limits Music Festival, September 14-16. Sold-out crowds are expected to descend upon Zilker Park and generate more than $27 million economic impact for the city. Event organizer C3 Presents reports that music fans from outside of Austin purchased more than 50 percent of the three-day passes and as much as 65 percent of one-day tickets to this year’s event. The festival, recognized among the top outdoor music concerts in the country, brings nearly 60,000 visitors to the city, contributing to a lucrative weekend for Austin-area hotels and businesses.   (more)

Austin Names Official Drink in Honor of Urban Bat Colony

Austin comes alive at night. Music echoes from nearly 200 venues, the scent of smoky barbecue fills the air, and from April through October, more than a million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge nightly from underneath the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. The city renowned for these diverse attractions has combined two of its most unique – the bats and Austin’s own Tito’s Handmade Vodka (founded, fittingly, by a man named Tito Beveridge) – to inspire local bartenders to create recipes and compete for exclusive rights to serve the “Batini: The Official Drink of Austin.”  (more)
