Republic of Texas Biker Rally Rumbles Back to Austin
Austin’s live music scene competes for decibels this weekend as more than 40,000 bikers rev their engines for the 15th annual Republic of Texas (ROT) Biker Rally, June 11-14. Four days of rides, parades, exhibits and big-name concerts take place at the Travis County Exposition Center and throughout downtown. The ROT Rally has grown into the most popular motorcycle event in Texas and one of the largest in the country. Attendees are expected to leave behind $36 million in estimated visitor spending. (more)
Texas State History Museum Presents Forgotten Gateway
Though not as nationally recognized as Ellis Island, Texas’ own Galveston Island played an integral role in American immigration from the 1850s to the 1920s. Stories of traveling to a new home and the hardships accompanying the journey are revealed in the exhibition Forgotten Gateway: Coming to America Through Galveston Island, which runs through Oct. 11 at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Austin Celebrates Black History Month with Kings of the Evening
In honor of Black History Month, the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau is teaming up with the City of Austin's George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center to present free screenings of Kings of the Evening, an award-winning African American film shot on location in and around Austin, on Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Carver Museum’s Boyd Vance Theatre. Screenings are free; due to limited seating, members of the public are encouraged to RSVP to 512-974-4926. Seating is on a first come, first served basis, and is not guaranteed. (more)

Longhorn Ironman 70.3 Austin Races Through Austin This Weekend
In its debut as part of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship Triathlon Series, the Longhorn Ironman 70.3 Austin, swims, cycles and runs through Texas’ capital city on Sunday at Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park. Some 2,300 competitors, including legendary pro triathletes Simon Lessing and Michellie Jones, have registered, and another 2,000 fans and supporters are likely to line the course. Altogether, the race is slated generate an economic impact of $1.5 million for the city. It serves as the first in a series of fall sports events that will generate more than $8 million for Austin through early December. (more)
Film, Food and Fun Events Fill Austin’s Fall Calendar
From explorations of the great outdoors to cultural festivals and lots of live music, October colors Austin with events. Highlights of the month include the Austin Film Festival, one of the top film festivals in the nation, taking place October 16-23, the Pioneer Farms Family Fall Music Festival on October 4; and the wildly infamous Halloween party on Sixth Street.
