Hyatt Regency Austin
The Hyatt Regency Austin is nearly finished with its stunning $30 million face-lift, which began in the spring of 2013. The hotel, located in downtown Austin, features a newly renovated and expanded 14,000-square-foot ballroom, which brings the hotel’s total meeting space to 46,500 square feet.
Dubbed Zilker Ballroom, the hotel’s Facebook fans helped name the space after Zilker Park, a 351-acre recreation area widely considered “Austin’s most loved park.” Similarly the ballroom, the third largest event space in the city, has become quite popular, according to Ryan Galvin, director of sales and marketing for the property. “We really embraced the fact that the ballroom was built for the community, so why not let the community vote on its name? We even went one step further by allowing local photographers the opportunity to submit their best photos of Zilker Park via Facebook,” Galvin said.
Stunning photography by the two winners is featured in the foyer area beside individual dedications.
Since its inception, many non-profit organizations have hosted large events in Zilker Ballroom, “which directly impacts their ability to succeed,” Galvin said.
The fresh look extends beyond the meeting space to the hotel’s 448 guestrooms. While modern and luxurious, the rooms still feel relaxed and very much in touch with the Austin vibe thanks to the music-inspired décor. It’s a fitting look considering the hotel’s location in the epicenter of downtown Austin, the “Live Music Capital of the World." The full guestroom renovation is slated to wrap up just in time for Christmas.
Meeting attendees will certainly appreciate the wide-ranging amenities, which include the ability to check in online from any web-enabled device, in-room coffee stations, ergonomic workstations and upgraded lightning fast Wi-Fi, which is complementary throughout the entire hotel.
During downtime, guests can relax at the seasonal pool and sundeck overlooking Lady Bird Lake. The Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike Trail offers 10 miles of lakeshore trails making it a social hub for runners, walkers and cyclists. After you’ve burned some calories, enjoy dining off the locally sourced, farm-fresh menu at Southwest Bistro, the property’s signature restaurant, and Marker 10, a sushi bar and lounge.
The renovation also included the addition of a convenient covered skywalk that connects the property to a seven-story, 794-space parking garage, complete with electric car charging stations, and a new Starbucks in the hotel lobby.
The Hyatt Regency Austin is located on the shores of Lady Bird Lake and near the Congress Street “Bat Bridge” — home to the world’s largest urban bat colony whose nightly summer exodus is watched by guests from around the world. The Austin Convention Center is a short 10-15 minute walk or a two-minute drive away. A slew of stylish shops and inventive restaurants line the streets in the South Congress district, a short walk south of the hotel, while the impressive Texas State Capitol is just north.
