Austin City Limits Tour: Since its premiere on PBS in 1976, Austin City Limits has featured more than 500 different regional and internationally acclaimed artists. Although tickets are hard to come by, tours of studio 6-A at station KLRU on the University of Texas at Austin campus are available on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. The tour includes a short video on the history of the show and Hall of Fame photos of the artists who have appeared over the years. Visitors also get the opportunity to take photos on the famous stage where such artists as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Willie Nelson played. Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial: Stroll the Town Lake hike and bike trail and stop at Auditorium Shores to pay homage to Austin musical icon, Stevie Ray Vaughan. The Austin blues artist died in a helicopter crash in 1990. 512-974-6700
Threadgill's: Austin's music scene started at an old fillin' station on Lamar Boulevard, where young UT students such as Janis Joplin jammed with yodeler Kenneth Threadgill. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport: Live music greets visitors while showcasing the best of Austin's diverse music scene. The music stage is next to the Highland Lakes Bar located in the center of the terminal building on the concourse level. Austin Music Hall is one of the most recognized live music and special events venues in Central Texas. In 1994, the Austin Music Hall was one of the first properties in the Austin Warehouse District to be converted into an upscale facility. The Austin Music Hall has hosted hundreds of concerts, presenting such acts as Bruce Springsteen, Beck, Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Foo Fighters and Dave Matthews Band. In addition, Direct Events and Austin Music Hall have been involved in booking and organizing upscale private events and fundraisers that have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for non-profit organizations. In 2007, Austin Music Hall underwent a complete demolition and rebuild. The new and improved Austin Music Hall re-opened its doors in November 2008.
The Backyard The Backyard is located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country in a natural, open-air setting enveloped in the shade of 400 year old live oaks. Multi-tiered decks, fish ponds and plaza areas illuminate the magic of the amphitheater's atmosphere. This one of a kind amphitheatre hosts music as varied and eclectic as the people of Austin. Willie Nelson, David Bowie, Natalie Merchant, the Gypsy Kings, Lyle Lovett, The Neville Brothers, Sheryl Crow, Widespread Panic and Norah Jones have all graced the tree surrounded stage.
