Best Trails—Town Lake Trail

Inside Triathlon
(May 2005)

“Austin, TX. If there’s one part of Texas that feels cultural, athletic and just plain fit, it’s the triathlon portal of Austin. (For comparison, Texas has five cities in the Top 15 fattest cities in the country – including Houston as numero uno – while Austin ranks an amazing 19th on the fittest list.) Full of triathletes who yearn for competition, great music and even better food, we love to visit Lance Armstrong’s hometown for a little R&R on the trails. One of the best in a spiderweb of trails throughout the city is the Town Lake trail.”

Austin City

Women’s Wear Daily
(April 7, 2005)

“Deep in the heart of Texas, Austin thrives on fashion. Thanks to local retail, music and college scenes, the capital lives off a seemingly endless supply of style and energy. Everywhere in the Texas Capital, T-shirts, posters and bumper stickers repeat the mantra “Keep Austin Weird.” But rather than being a den of the bizarre, the city is simply cut from a different cloth than the state’s other major hubs, Dallas and Houston. Most Austinites consider their city to be more liberal and laid-back, fueled by the huge live music scene (insiders say it outpaces those of New York and Los Angeles) and the University of Texas at Austin’s diverse student body. Likewise, the local fashion scene reflects this same ideology.”

All the Rage in Texas

Financial Times of London
(April 30, 2005)

“As Kunz [John T. Kunz, owner of Waterloo Records] puts it: ‘Austin almost feels like an oasis in a desert, and people like to head to the water.’”

Cedar Door

Generally speaking bars, especially the buildings that bars inhabit, are not migratory. Of course the exception lies in Austin, where the venerable Cedar Door bar has moved not one, two or three times—but five. Expired leases forced owners to relocate the quaint landmark over its 30-year history, most recently landing at the corner of Second and Brazos in late 2002.
