Dear Hospitality Community,
Without a doubt, the past 10 days have been the most challenging that we all have faced both personally and professionally since the events of September 11, 2001. As we continue to witness the devastation and death wrought by Hurricane Katrina, we offer our condolences, our prayers and our support to all the victims of this disaster.

While the storm ravaged indiscriminately in its wide swath from New Orleans to Mobile, it is New Orleans that has been a premier tourist destination in the South for over three decades. For the time being, the New Orleans CVB has opened a command post within the International Association of Exhibition Management offices in Dallas. We pledge our support in assisting Stephen Perry and his staff as they plan to reopen their offices in New Orleans in Spring 2006.

As things are changing quickly and constantly at the Austin Convention Center and other facilities in regards to temporary housing for evacuees, please consult our website www.austintexas.org regularly. The staff of Austin CVB is working diligently with clients to reschedule and relocate September business originally scheduled at the Convention Center and Palmer Events Center. As of this writing, only one consumer show and one single-day conference have cancelled completely.

We sincerely appreciate the patience, flexibility and support of our clients and the entire Austin hospitality community during this challenging time. We also commend our hotels, restaurants and attractions for the incredible outpouring of goodwill, donations and generosity to the evacuees.

Sincerely,

Bob Lander
President & CEO
