Spotlight On: Umlauf Sculpture Garden
One of Austin's best-kept secrets, Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum has welcomed guests to the sanctuary gardens and gentle paths since 1991. The venue boasts 130 sculptures, drawings and paintings by the late Charles Umlauf, who taught art at the University of Texas and retired as professor emeritus in 1981. Umlauf's award-winning work is placed in more public locations than the work of any other sculptor.
Garden facilities accommodate events ranging from weddings to corporate fundraisers. Guests can meander among the sculpture-lined trails as well as along the brook, small islands, bridges and wedding trellis.
A covered terrace can accommodate up to 200 people in a formal or casual atmosphere where they are surrounded by landscaped gardens, wooded hills and intriguing sculptures. The Roberta Crenshaw Building, enclosed with glass walls, provides seating for 30 to 40 people for a small event or dinner.
The museum, maintained and funded by the Friends of the Umlauf Sculpture Garden organization, is open to the public and staffed by volunteers. The garden, covering nearly six acres and featuring 56 sculptures, is maintained by Austin's Parks and Recreation Department.
Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum is located along the Southern edge of Zilker Park at 605 Robert E. Lee Road.
