In celebration of National Tourism Week, Austin CVB is hosting the 2nd annual industry luncheon on May 16, featuring keynote speaker Roger Dow, President and CEO of the Travel Industry Association. At the event, Austin CVB will also showcase the Bureau's new state-of-the-art website, AustinTexas.org, which offers users an unprecedented way to experience Texas' capital city.

National Sales Missions Target
Up-and-Coming Planners

In order to connect with the next generation of meeting planners and association executives, Austin CVB hosted dynamic client events in Chicago and Washington, DC in March. These sales missions were designed to engage up-and-coming planners and encourage them to invest in Austin as a premier meetings destination. Attendees participated in "speed selling," which offered a quick and comprehensive understanding of the city, discovered Austin's eclectic character, discussed amenities with partner hotels and resorts, and experienced live music from local indie-rock buzz band The Black and White Years.

In conjunction with National Tourism Week, May 12-16, Austin CVB launches an all new AustinTexas.org. The site, which offers users an unprecedented way to experience Texas' Capital City, reflects the Bureau's efforts to move the city into an increasingly internet-based world of travel and tourism.

International Marketing Firm Selected to Represent Austin

Austin CVB has hired Global Hospitality Marketing Link (GHML) to promote the Texas capital as a leading leisure and group travel destination for visitors from across the globe. GHML is also representing San Antonio, allowing the firm to more comprehensively package Texas as a destination and capitalize on the record number of international visitors Texas has received in the past year. One of the nation's leading international representation companies, GHML is charged with developing strategies and partnerships to bolster relationships with key European travel partners and trade organizations, especially those based in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany.

Latino Music Month Showcases Diverse Musical Styles

Austin CVB has joined up once more with the Austin Latino Music Association (ALMA) to promote Latino Music Month (LMM), which runs May 1-31, and showcases the eclectic sounds of Austin's Latino artists. Now in its third year, LMM presents festivals and performances, coloring the musical landscape with rock en Espanol, conjunto, mariachi, salsa and Latin jazz. Last year, LMM included more than 300 shows in some 100 venues. These performances contributed to more than $616 million in economic impact generated by live music in 2007.

Sports Commission Welcomes Tournaments and Events

The Austin Sports Commission has booked major events during April, May and June to bring more than $36 million in economic impact to the area. The USA Rugby Men's Divisional Playoffs return to Austin, May 17-18 at Zilker Park. Some 1,200 athletes composing 40 rugby teams compete to move on to the championship rounds to be played in Glendale, CO. The matches are slated to generate $1.5 million in economic impact for Austin.
