Sports Commission Welcomes Tournaments and Events
The Austin Sports Commission has booked major events during April, May and June to bring more than $36 million in economic impact to the area. The USA Rugby Men's Divisional Playoffs return to Austin, May 17-18 at Zilker Park. Some 1,200 athletes composing 40 rugby teams compete to move on to the championship rounds to be played in Glendale, CO. The matches are slated to generate $1.5 million in economic impact for Austin.
From June 12-15, the annual Republic of Texas Biker Rally returns to Austin and the Travis County Exposition Center. More than 40,000 motorcycle enthusiasts have registered for four days of rides, parades, exhibits and big-name concerts. Over the past 13 years, the ROT Rally has grown into the most popular motorcycle event in Texas and one of the largest in the country. Attendees are expected to leave behind approximately $34.5 million economic impact on the community.
The Capital of Texas Triathlon also returns to Austin with a multi-sport fitness expo and multi-level triathlon competitions throughout the weekend of May 24-26. Some 3,000 athletes swim, bike and run through downtown Austin and contribute to an estimated $1 million in economic impact over the weekend.
