New Hotels Open Downtown
The new Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Austin Downtown/Convention Center open for business later this month. The new properties add a total of 449 guest rooms and 6,600 square feet of event and meeting space to the downtown hotel package. Among the shared amenities are a heated indoor pool, whirlpool, fitness center, rooftop terrace, Champions Restaurant & Sports Bar and Starbucks. The hotel is owned and operated by White Lodging Services.

CBS Early Show Highlights Austin Tourism
CBS broadcasted its national "Great American Getaway" segment from Austin on July 19. Bill Peeper, a DMAI convention attendee and President and CEO of the Orlando CVB, helped Early Show weatherman Dave Price award Darla Evans and her son, Ian, a five-day vacation to Disney World in recognition of her devotion to the Austin community. Evans works with the Austin Parks and Recreation Department as a horticulturist at Zilker Botanical Gardens, and was nominated for the vacation by co-worker Margie Malone.
