Austin CVB Welcomes New Staff
Linda Moore joins Austin CVB as Tourism Sales Manager. In this role, Moore develops programs and strategies that position Austin as a leading leisure tourism destination. She also serves as a liaison between group travel providers and local hospitality industry partners. With some 25 years of experience in tourism sales, Moore previously served as tourism marketing manager for the Greater Houston CVB.

Aida Salas also joins the staff as sales coordinator. Salas provides support for the sales team by planning site visits, creating presentations and tracking proposals.

Austin Ranks #1 for Hispanics
For the sixth consecutive year, Hispanic magazine ranks Austin among the top 10 cities in the nation for Hispanics to live and work, and for the third time, Austin adds up to #1. The article cites the Texas capital's cultural heritage, educational opportunities and political activism as major reasons that it remains a popular destination for Hispanics.

Go Online For Lights, Camera, Action
The Austin Film Commission recently launched an online directory of resources available to productions filming in and around the city. The directory includes more than 1,900 listings that range from film crews to food stylists and charter boats to production insurance. Visit www.austintexas.org/film for more information.

DMAI Holds Annual Meeting
Austin CVB staff recently attended the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) convention in Pittsburgh. The annual meeting, which was held in Austin last year, brings together industry professionals for education sessions and discussions of the latest trends. Austin CVB's participation was especially pertinent this year, as the Bureau awaits DMAI accreditation for destination marketing organizations that are committed to industry excellence.

Longhorns Score Touchdown for Economy
With Arkansas State coming to town, September 1 kicks off another season of University of Texas football, and that means a boost for the local economy. Some 35,000 out-of-town fans attend each UT home game and account for a demand of more than 14,000 hotel rooms on home game weekends. Each game adds an economic impact of some $23 million, translating to a total economic impact of $138 million for the 2007-2008 Longhorn season.
