SmithBucklin Takes City by Storm
The Austin CVB sales department hosted an educational site visit of Austin this week for 16 representatives from Chicago and Washington, D.C. of the SmithBucklin Corporation, a multi-meeting management company that represents national associations.
"It's important for us to showcase Austin to SmithBucklin and gain their support so they can actively promote Austin as a premier convention site to the national trade association market," says Roy Benear, senior vice president of the Austin CVB.
The group stayed at the Hilton Austin and toured the Austin Convention Center, InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel, Driskill Hotel, Renaissance Austin Hotel, Hyatt Regency Austin, Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown, Radisson Hotel & Suites Austin, Four Seasons Hotel Austin, Crowne Plaza Austin and Austin Marriott at the Capitol. They also visited area resorts, including Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa, which opens in June 2006, Barton Creek Resort and Spa and Lakeway Inn Resort.
In addition, the SmithBucklin representatives sampled a bit of Austin's culture with stops at Whole Foods World Headquarters, the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and Esther's Follies, and they dined at Salt Lick BBQ, Moonshine Bar and Grill and Stubb's Bar-B-Q. Circa Austin provided transportation for the tour.

Mercury Hall
Nestled among the oak trees on a hill in South Austin's Galinda neighborhood sits a historic former church that serves up a different form of salvation. Mercury Hall was constructed as a chapel in 1904 in Mercury, 120 miles northwest of Austin. For 80 years, it housed church services and town until the community built a new church. In 1997, the building moved to Austin and began to host meetings, special events, fundraisers and performances.
