Spotlight On: The Salt Lick BBQ
One of Austin's most popular barbecue joints, The Salt Lick, now offers old-fashioned flavor for meetings and events in the new Thurman's Mansion. The restaurant, located at 18001 FM 1826 in Driftwood, is world famous for its open-pit barbecue with traditional accompaniments. For more than three decades, the institution has been a favorite location, not only for dining but for private and corporate events including weddings, company picnics, meetings, family reunions and more.
Thurman's Mansion, named for Thurman Roberts, the original proprietor of the Salt Lick, offers 2,700 square feet of meeting and event space in a classic Hill Country setting overlooking the new vineyards and original restaurant in Driftwood. The 30x90-foot downstairs dining hall accommodates approximately 150 guests for a seated dinner or standing reception. Guests can rent a projector screen for corporate meetings, and the Salt Lick's catering staff arranges additional audio-visual set-up if necessary.
In addition to Thurman's Mansion, the Salt Lick offers renovated event space in rustic limestone buildings on the banks of Onion Creek. Five separate event facilities accommodate anywhere from 50 to 500 guests. The Pavilion sits beneath a canopy of lighted pecan trees and offers 7,200 square feet of space for dinners or receptions. Guests can enjoy plenty of room for mingling or dancing in this newly renovated facility, which now features year-round temperature control. The Banquet Room is a separate stone building adjacent to the main restaurant. It features an antique wet bar, stone fireplace and oversized windows. The building also houses the ranch-style Garden Room, which looks out over the peach orchard and accommodates smaller meetings.
The main restaurant also offers the air-conditioned private dining room. Weather permitting, private events can also be held on the restaurant's Rock Patio underneath the shade of tall oak trees.
The restaurant's catering staff helps meeting planners with arrangements for bands, linens, plate settings, cakes, lighting, DJ's and more. There is also with a special accessory "to boot"- a centerpiece of Texas wildflowers arranged in a hurricane vase or cowboy boot.
For private parties, event facilities or offsite catering options, call the Salt Lick's special events team at 512-894-3117 or email catering@saltlickbbq.com. Tours include a complimentary lunch at the original restaurant. More information is available at www.saltlickbbq.com .
