Capital City Leads State in Film―The Texas Film Commission announced that Austin leads all Texas cities in film and television total production budgets for the sixth consecutive year with approximately $78 million in television and feature film production budgets, accounting for 56 percent of total film budgets in the state in 2005. Twenty film and television projects wrapped in Austin last year, including the feature films How to Eat Fried Worms, Infamous, The Return and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Origin and the television series Austin City Limits, Real World Austin and Roller Girls.

Sales Team Travels to PCMA―Austin CVB Senior Vice President Roy Benear, Director of Sales Mary Kay Hackley and Sales Manager Laurie Hartz head to Philadelphia for the Professional Convention Management Association's (PCMA) 50th annual meeting, January 8-11. PCMA is the premier gathering of meeting industry professionals.

Southwest Showcase Returns to Austin―The Austin CVB joins the Hilton Austin and Radisson Hotel & Suites Austin in exhibiting at Southwest Showcase, an education conference and tradeshow for regional meeting industry professionals, at the Austin Convention Center on February 2.

Long Center for the
Performing Arts

Built as a monument to the space age, the Palmer Auditorium sat on the south banks of Town Lake since 1959. Over the years, the auditorium housed many of Austin's biggest events, including performances from Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Then in May 1999, a $20 million donation from Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long allowed for the renovation of the outdated auditorium into a world-class performing arts center.
