Austin Celebrates Black History Month
This February, in partnership with the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center, Austin CVB hosts the City of Austin's 12th Annual Black History Month celebration. The Honorable Samuel Biscoe, Travis County Judge, emcees the program, and in observance of the national theme, "Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism," Dr. Larry Earvin, PhD., president of Huston-Tillotson University, provides a keynote speech on the contributions of Woodson, the Father of Black History and founder of Black History Month.
In addition, Dr. Earvin will unveil the "Learn More" campaign - a new look, logo and spirit for Huston-Tillotson University. The university choir will also perform, along with the Campbell Elementary School choir. The event takes place at the Carver Museum's Boyd Vance Theatre (1165 Angelina Street) from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Feb. 1. Other city-wide partners include Austin Energy, AISD, Downtown Austin Alliance, Capital City African-American Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Society of Austin and Historic Landmark Commission.
