Austin Shines as Starting Line for Solar Race
The longest solar car race in the world and the first to cross an international border starts from the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum on July 17. The North American Solar Challenge (NASC) features solar-powered cars designed, built and raced by students on a 2,500-mile voyage from Austin that ends in Calgary, Alberta on July 27.

Visitor Center Staff Undergoes Changes
The Austin Visitor Center recently hired a new retail operations manager and visitor center manager.
Saundra Turner has been promoted to visitor center manger. Turner began working at the center as a volunteer in 2003 and was hired as a full-time employee in 2004. A native of California, she graduated from Sacramento State College.

New York Goes Texan
The Austin CVB joined seven other Texas cities last month to host a “Taste of Texas” mini-state fair for media at the Hudson Hotel in New York City. More than 60 journalists, including representatives from Outdoor Life Network, Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel, Good Housekeeping, Fodor’s travel publications, Food & Wine and Latina magazine, attended the event.
