Austin Hotel Occupancy Increases
Midway through the year and with a record summer convention schedule still ahead, Austin leads the state in year-to-date hotel occupancy numbers at 71%. In addition to a significant increase in overnight stays, local hotels are also charging higher average room rates per night. Sports Commission Welcomes Big 12 Commissioner
Emphasizing conference slogan, "Together, We Are Better," Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg addressed Austin Sports Commission's debut luncheon on June 29. The event was co-hosted by the Austin Economic Club. Weiberg detailed the Big 12's goals, including better academic performance among students and an integrated support system among Big 12 universities to increase the economic impact of sports. The University of Texas helps to attract more than 228,000 sports-related visitors to Austin each year.
