Austin Celebrates National Tourism Week
Austin's celebration of National Tourism/See America week at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum proved a smashing success. More than 250 community leaders and hospitality professionals attended this "state of the industry" event, where TIA Vice President of Industry Relations Dexter Koehl gave an informative presentation highlighting the importance of service in the travel industry. Koehl remarked, "Travel and tourism is a people business. We sell experiences, not a tangible product. And experiences are primarily generated by people."
Austin High School students Jenna Collins, Andrew Cox and Lily Alpern received scholarships for their award-winning photography showcasing Austin through their eyes, while their photos were displayed on the screens of the Texas Spirit Theatre.
Stacy Rodrigues from Capital Sports & Entertainment also used the event to announce the lineup for the 2006 Austin City Limits Music Festival, one of Austin's largest tourism draws. The festival lineup is available at www.aclfestival.com.

Destination Texas
Southwest Airlines Spirit (April 2006)
"The State Capitol. The University of Texas. The Live Music Capital of the World. However you know Austin, you know you love it. Full of energy and buzz, the city is growing fast. Yet it still has that laid-back feelinglike nothing is so urgent you can't sit down under the trees with a cold beverage and just work it all out."
Austin: No Limits
The Kansas City Star (May 21, 2006)
"Still, it's not hard to find pockets of the old Austin, the place that made it such a joy to visit. The restaurants and bars along Sixth Street downtown are still crowded after dark. Threadgill's still serves a mean chicken-fried steak. And thousands of bats still darken the sky as they come out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge each evening."

The Seven Wonders of the World-Music
The Globe and Mail (Toronto, ON) (April 22, 2006)
"With a true Texas disdain for false modesty, Austin has registered a trademark on the phrase, 'Live Music Capital of the World.'...This is the spiritual home home of the outlaw tendency in American roots music, characterized by Willie Nelson and Townes van Zandt, who lived here."
