Media Missions Place Austin in National Spotlight

Austin CVB takes the Hill Country to the Big Apple on Monday when the communications department teams up with one of New York's newest restaurants, Hill Country Barbecue Market, for a media event. Some 100 members of the media from major national outlets are scheduled to attend, including representatives from Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel and Successful Meetings. Hill Country Barbecue Market opens this week and serves all the best food and drink Central Texas has to offer. Attendees will sample Texas barbecue, beers and wines, and even Blue Bell Ice Cream, while dancing to live music from Austin favorite Heybale.

In addition, the communications department hosts media visits to Austin this month for writers from Good Life Connoisseur (Vancouver), Hispanic Golf, The Globe & Mail (Toronto), Southwest Spirit, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, D Magazine, Daily Candy and MPI . A recent visit to Los Angeles also included meetings with Upscale Traveler, the Food Network, Association News, Copley News Service and Black Meetings & Tourism.

"[Austin] is Texas, but not Texas: a green city, shaped and defined by rivers and lakes. A high-tech place of dive bars and honky-tonks, old diners and vintage neon. A music city. Live bands abound, from boot-heel blues and cowboy country to Latino, metal and punk."
