Spotlight On: Lamberts Downtown Barbecue
Lamberts Downtown Barbecue, located in the historic Schneider Store at 401 West 2nd Street, puts a fancy "twist" on the oldest of Texas' culinary traditions. This new staple of the 2nd Street District serves lunch and dinner, as well as offers event space for groups.
Private parties at Austin's hippest new venue are staged with a touch of history. The Schneider Store was built in 1873 as one of the first general stores in the city. The building survived the Depression, two fires and near demolition. In 2000, the City of Austin began restoring the building, which now shows its original facade and stands as a testament to historic downtown.
The two-story facility boasts 2,000 square feet of space per floor and accommodates private parties with up to 200 guests. Downstairs, as many as 60 guests can enjoy a private seated dinner or reception. The upstairs area, which services up to 150 people, overlooks downtown's glittering skyline. Smaller parties may enjoy the shaded patio, where up to 75 guests take in Austin's great outdoors and the bustle of this popular downtown district.
Chef Larry McGuire creates customized "fancy barbecue" menus, from light hors d'oeuvres to plated dinners. Guests can sample from Lamberts' signature charcuterie plate while sipping a martini, or sit down to brown sugar-and-coffee-rubbed brisket with a side of buttermilk potato salad. For a true Texas dessert experience, select the fried pies.
No Austin meeting or event is complete without live music. Lamberts hosts such regular musical guests as Johnny Gimble, Gary Clark Jr. and Marshall Ford Swing Band.

One of a Kind Weekend: Good Times in Offbeat Austin
Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel (March 2007)
"If Texas' cities were a family, then Austin would undoubtedly be everyone's favorite uncle: slightly eccentric, yes, but also smart, creative, and community-minded, with a great sense of humor and an even greater sense of fun."
SXSW, Austin
Links Magazine (March 1,2007)
"[Austin] is Texas, but not Texas: a green city, shaped and defined by rivers and lakes. A high-tech place of dive bars and honky-tonks, old diners and vintage neon. A music city. Live bands abound, from boot-heel blues and cowboy country to Latino, metal and punk."
Wild Ride
Corporate Meetings & Incentives (May 2007)
"The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has helped, not hindered, the city to attract meetings...ranking among the best airports in the country by J.D. Power and Associates. With a projected increase of 7.6 percent in seat miles, the airport is one of the five biggest movers for 2007." Read Article
Texas Escapes
D Magazine (March 2007)
"You've probably seen the t-shirts, coffee mugs and bumper stickers asking the world to 'keep Austin weird,'...but no matter how chic and gentrified Austin becomes, it will always remain the coolest city in Texas."
Hill Country Headliner
Meetings South (June 2007)
"If 'positive praise via word of mouth' was a superlative among the many Austin annually garnersit is often found at the top of 'best places to live, work and play' listsit most certainly would rule." Read Article
