Spotlight On: The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum
The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum celebrates its fifth anniversary with a new look at its inaugural exhibit. It STILL Ain't Braggin' If It's True! celebrates Texas heritage with items honoring "vision, perseverance, pride, showmanship, and swagger." The exhibit opens with a concert from Grammy® winning Conjunto legend Flaco Jimenez on the museum's Lone Star Plaza at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 26. Concert-goers will also get a sneak preview of the exhibit, which opens to the public on May 27.
Since its opening, more than 2.8 million people have visited the museum. As Austin's top paid tourist attraction, TSHM has a $407 million impact on the local economy.
In addition to the museum being a local leisure attraction, groups may rent the museum for meetings and receptions. The museum rotunda seats up to 600 guests and can accommodate 1,200 for a reception. Larger groups can be seated in the lobbies on both the ground floor and second floor. A popular spot for dinner and dancing, the rotunda floor mosaic depicts a storytelling scene around a campfire.
The museum's second floor lobby and Story of Texas Cafe offer meeting space as well. The Cafe's decor features Texas limestone and custom-made, Lone Star-shaped light fixtures. Tables and chairs for up to 118, plus additional seating on the balcony, are included in the Cafe. Adjoining lobby space may be used for smaller receptions or dinners. This dual space offers a number of set-up options.
A fourth floor board room seats 18 for intimate meetings. The board room is equipped with a high-definition plasma screen, DVD/VCR and teleconferencing phones, and it is easily accessible by elevator. Catering services are available.
The Texas Spirit Theatre and IMAX theatre are available and fully equipped for presentations of any size. Meeting planners may also book space among the museum exhibits for unique ambiance.
