Austin GuitarTown Takes Music to the Streets
Local music is a delight to the ears, and now Gibson Guitars has put together a project to entertain the eyes. Austin GuitarTown launches this month and features dozens of ten-foot-tall fiberglass guitars decorated by local artists. The sculptures will be placed in front of landmark buildings and businesses throughout the city.
Artists collaborated with renowned local and national musicians to design each guitar. The "Hill Country Blues" guitar features a design by Leah Maxwell in conjunction with Dwight Yoakam. Julie Ann McDonald and Norah Jones teamed up to create the "Flower Power" guitar, and Bob (Daddy-O) Wade and Ray Wylie Hubbard shared a vision for a guitar themed "Snake Farm." More information, including a full listing of guitars and featured musicians, is available online.

When It Comes to Live Music, Austin Has No Limit
Miami Herald (September 10, 2006)
"When you plan a trip to Austin, you need to prepare yourself for a musical overdose... [Austin is] the capital of Texas but it calls itself the Live Music Capital of the World. And it isn't just one sort of music. Austin has blues, country, old-school rock, industrial/goth, a healthy group of cover bands playing up and down Sixth Street and even electronic DJs."
Austin: The Best Little City in America
National Geographic Traveler (November/December 2006)
"Dancing arm in arm is an American cross-section: rednecks in cowboy hats, new-agers in Birkenstocks, tattooed twenty-something hipsters, preps in pink polo shirts. The men are men, and the women are women, swirling, twirling, beaming, moving with the simple, unbridled joy of music....Austin is known as the nation's mecca of live music. But after soaking up the nightlife---and discovering other attributes of this funky state capital---I'd go further: Austin, I'm here to say, is the best little city in America." Read article
