Spotlight On: Zachary Scott Theatre Center
Zachary Scott Theatre Center (ZACH) captures the essence of Austin through an array of original plays and adapted musicals. In addition, the center caters to a diverse selection of client needs by offering event space and private performances.
Founded in 1933 and originally known as Austin Civic Center, ZACH is the oldest professional theater in Central Texas. Nearly 40 years after its founding, the center grew into an 8,000 square-foot theater and changed its name to Zachary Scott Theatre. Located along the south shore of Town Lake, ZACH is one of only 42 arts organizations in the United States selected for participation in the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts advancement program.
The center kicks off the holiday season with a trio of traditional favorites returning to the stage. Plaid Tidings, Rockin' Christmas Party and David Sedaris' comic romp, The Santaland Diaries, light up the season with talented performers and brilliant stage settings.
Groups can add a special flair to corporate holiday parties by renting theaters for private performances of these shows. Group incentives include discounts for eight or more, free parking and complimentary use of kitchen facilities. Catering is available for pre- or post-show parties. Zach's group sales managers assist clients by suggesting performances, managing event details and creating a one-of-a-kind experience.

When It Comes to Live Music, Austin Has No Limit
Miami Herald (September 10, 2006)
"When you plan a trip to Austin, you need to prepare yourself for a musical overdose... [Austin is] the capital of Texas but it calls itself the Live Music Capital of the World. And it isn't just one sort of music. Austin has blues, country, old-school rock, industrial/goth, a healthy group of cover bands playing up and down Sixth Street and even electronic DJs."
Austin: The Best Little City in America
National Geographic Traveler (November/December 2006)
"Dancing arm in arm is an American cross-section: rednecks in cowboy hats, new-agers in Birkenstocks, tattooed twenty-something hipsters, preps in pink polo shirts. The men are men, and the women are women, swirling, twirling, beaming, moving with the simple, unbridled joy of music....Austin is known as the nation's mecca of live music. But after soaking up the nightlife---and discovering other attributes of this funky state capital---I'd go further: Austin, I'm here to say, is the best little city in America." Read article
