Austin Sports Commission Names New Account Director

The Austin Sports Commission announces the hiring of Matt Wilson as the new account director. In this position, Wilson will market the city to regional and national athletic organizations as a viable destination for their events.

Wilson brings several years of sales and sports related experience to the commission. He previously served as marketing and brand manager for the MasterCard Alamo Bowl, where he developed marketing strategies, booked venues, negotiated vendor participation and secured corporate sponsorships. He also served as a district manager for ADP Small Business Services.

Wilson's personal experience with sports enhances his understanding of the industry requirements. He played center and guard on Eastern New Mexico University's football team before transferring to Texas Tech University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in public relations.

When It Comes to Live Music, Austin Has No Limit

Miami Herald
(September 10, 2006)

"When you plan a trip to Austin, you need to prepare yourself for a musical overdose... [Austin is] the capital of Texas but it calls itself the Live Music Capital of the World. And it isn't just one sort of music. Austin has blues, country, old-school rock, industrial/goth, a healthy group of cover bands playing up and down Sixth Street and even electronic DJs."

Austin: The Best Little City in America

National Geographic Traveler
(November/December 2006)

"Dancing arm in arm is an American cross-section: rednecks in cowboy hats, new-agers in Birkenstocks, tattooed twenty-something hipsters, preps in pink polo shirts. The men are men, and the women are women, swirling, twirling, beaming, moving with the simple, unbridled joy of music....Austin is known as the nation's mecca of live music. But after soaking up the nightlife---and discovering other attributes of this funky state capital---I'd go further: Austin, I'm here to say, is the best little city in America."
