Betty Baker Retires from ACVB
After 33 years of service to the City of Austin and Austin CVB, Betty Baker has retired. During Baker's tenure as the Bureau's director of heritage marketing, she pioneered programs, raised awareness and worked to preserve Austin's most notable landmarks. She instituted Austin CVB's Black History Month and Historic Preservation Month series, as well as co-founded the Presidential Corridor that links the LBJ Library and Museum in Austin to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station.
Baker's long tenure of community involvement includes service on the board of the Heritage Society of Austin, the city's Neighborhood Planning and Zoning Department and W.H. Passon Historical Society. She has received awards from the Texas Historical Commission, Austin Public Library, Historic Landmark Commission, Learning Alternatives for Mature Persons and many other organizations for her contributions to historic preservation. Baker will continue to work with Austin CVB in a part-time capacity as a consultant.
"Betty's many years of service have been invaluable to the CVB and City of Austin," says Bob Lander, President and CEO of Austin CVB. "She has shown incredible dedication to historic preservation, citywide activism and the well being of the community. We are grateful for the time she has spent here and look forward to still having access to her knowledge and expertise."
