Customer Advisory Board Reviews Meetings Product
Austin CVB recently hosted the second meeting of the Bureau's Customer Advisory Board (CAB), a group of industry leaders representing associations and meeting management firms from across the country. Members of the board met at the Hyatt Regency Austin to provide critical feedback and insight relating to the city's growth as a premier meetings and convention destination. Austin Sports Commission Hosts Inaugural Golf Classic
The Austin Sports Commission hosts its inaugural Golf Classic on Monday, Nov.19, to raise awareness of and funds for its efforts in bringing athletic events to Austin. Teams are invited to participate and enjoy scenic golf, live music and great cuisine while helping to promote the region as a prime sports destination. To register, visit www.austintexas.org/sports. Registration is $200 per person. The event takes place at the University of Texas Golf Club, 2200 University Club Drive, with sign-in at 10:30 a.m., lunch at 11 and a shotgun start at noon. A reception follows with catering from Cool River Cafe and live music from Guy Forsyth.

Betty Baker Retires from ACVB
After 33 years of service to the City of Austin and Austin CVB, Betty Baker has retired. During Baker's tenure as the Bureau's director of heritage marketing, she pioneered programs, raised awareness and worked to preserve Austin's most notable landmarks. She instituted Austin CVB's Black History Month and Historic Preservation Month series, as well as co-founded the Presidential Corridor that links the LBJ Library and Museum in Austin to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station.

Tourism Department Markets Austin Abroad
Austin CVB travels to Mexico and Canada in October to promote Texas' Capital City as a premier group tour destination.
The Bureau teams up with AeroMexico to promote the airline's new daily flight to Austin with an event for Mexican group tour operators and travel trade media on October 18 at Hotel Habita. While enjoying refreshments and live music from the hip Austin band, Snafu Kitties, guests can learn about Austin's distinct accommodations and attractions. Attendees are also eligible to win airline tickets, hotel stays and promotional gear. Read More
Austin Film Office Launches Industry Discount Program
The Austin Film Office, in partnership with the City of Austin, plans to launch a film industry discount card program on the heels of the 14th annual Austin Film Festival , which runs Oct. 11-18. This year's festival features more than 100 screenings alongside workshops and panel discussions with such industry legends and executives as director Oliver Stone and writer Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich). Ballet Austin's Butler Community School
