Spring is here! Temperatures are beginning to rise to the Texas standard we all know (and sometimes love), people are swapping out winter jackets for swimsuits and the famous bluebonnets are in bloom along the roads. Austin thrives in the springtime, just as the wildflowers do - here are the best ways to take advantage of this gorgeous season:
The first sign of good weather makes most Austinites head straight for the outdoors – specifically Barton Springs Pool. The three-acre nature-made pool is a local treasure with year-round perfectly tempered 68-degree water. Take a dip, relax and enjoy plenty of people watching at the Springs. Venture out of the city on a particularly warm afternoon and head to Jacob’s Well or Hamilton Pool, two of the inviting swimming holes in the Hill Country area. Hamilton Pool is set up with a 50-foot waterfall while Jacob’s Well gives patrons the unique opportunity to swim directly in an artesian spring.
Want a little more action in your swimming experience? Rent a paddleboard or kayak from the Rowing Dock or at any of the other kiosks along the Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike Trail, and elevate your normal swim in a lap lane, to an adventure of Lady Bird Lake.
Dine Al Fresco
What better way to enjoy the perfect weather than with good food and good company?
Austin is full of restaurants with spectacular patios to elevate your vacation. For a satisfying brunch, stop by Alta’s Cafe for a meal by the water, or Blue Dahlia Bistro for delicious French-inspired dishes that are perfect for sharing. Perla’s is a favorite for their fresh seafood and large dining patio that runs alongside the eclectic South Congress district, as well as El Alma for their great happy hour margaritas to cool off with after a long, hot day. To cap the night off, head over to Lucille for a cocktail or two to enjoy in the large outdoor mingling spaces on lively Rainey Street.

Enjoy a Festival
Austin is home to some of the most exciting festivals in the country. Springtime brings in a slew of annual events that just keep getting bigger and better each year.
Enjoy a blend of classic and modern reggae at the annual Austin Reggae Festival (4/14/17–4/16/17) or some side-stitching laughs at the Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival (4/19/17–4/22/17). For the arts and culture aficionados, Fusebox Festival (4/12/17–4/16/17) showcases the art from local, national and global artists from four different continents, and the Pecan Street Spring Arts Festival (5/6/17–5/7/17) proudly features more than 275 artisan vendors from all over the world who display and sell homemade art and craft work. Going to all of these great festivals will work up an appetite, enjoy some of the best, most exclusive culinary treats from award-winning chefs at the Austin Food + Wine Festival (4/28/17–4/31/17).

When the Rain Hits
Sporadic spring showers aren’t uncommon from March till May and with the unpredictability of Texas weather, it’s good to have some back up plans up your sleeve when the weather doesn’t go accordingly!
Catch a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse for a showing of your favorite classic or Violet Crown Cinema for a perfect dinner and a movie date. Soak in some culture at one of the many galleries in town, like Art for the People Gallery or Women & Their Work Gallery. If the rain just makes you want to stay in and relax, do it in luxury. Book an appointment at LACQUER for an organic deluxe pedicure or pamper yourself at the new Spa by JW with an agave nectar massage on the rocks.
