Do you need a kick-start to get into the holiday spirit? Pack up the family and head down to Congress Avenue at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 for the free Chuy's Children Giving to Children Christmas Parade.

Chuy's Christmas Parade

An Austin tradition, the parade was established by Chuy's restaurants in 1989 and features floats, marching bands, children's dance teams, classic cars and large inflatable characters, all with the stately Texas State Capitol as a backdrop.

The event is a great way to teach your kids about the importance of giving to those less fortunate as all parade attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy (or several) to donate to Operation Blue Santa. At a designated time, the parade pauses and Santa's helpers will collect the gifts from the children along the route for the charity. The parade goes south on Congress Avenue from 11th street (just south of the Capitol) to Cesar Chavez (just north of Lady Bird Lake bridge) and lasts about an hour. Hope to see you there!
