Red River is the perfect street to wander down when you're waiting for something to catch your ear and draw you in. This official entertainment and cultural district is vital to the heart of the Live Music Capital of the World and in January, Red River will put on a show like no other. From January 1 - 8, venues throughout the city host free live music shows to celebrate the artists, venues and thriving culture of creativity in Austin. Here are the can't miss venues on Red River during Free Week (and all year long): 

Band on stage at the Mohawk live music venue

Mohawk: This corner bar plays host to big names as well as local up-and-comers. Stop by during Free Week for craft beer and tunes from Carson McHone, Whiskey Shivers, Keeper, Otis the Destroyer and tons more.

Barracuda: Head to Barracuda from January 1-14 for double the Free Week fun! Two weeks of free music will include performances by A Giant Dog, Sweet SpiritAnnabelle Chairlegs and more. 

The Sidewinder: This venue captures the true Austin spirit and is run by musicians, for musicians. Free Week shows include Chippr Jones, Daphne, Ringo Deathstarr, Burning Years and more.

Empire Control Room & Garage: This multi-stage venue is perfect for cool January nights, and when it gets hot inside, head to the patio overlooking Waller Creek. Expect Free Week showcases by hot local artists such as Ruby & the Reckless, Calliope Musicals, Black Books and more.

Swan Dive: This intimate venue is hosting Free Week parties from Sunday to Sunday, so stop in for sets from the likes of My Jerusalem, Fort Never and more.

Cheer Up Charlies: Spend your Free Week on the pink patio at Cheer Up's who is hosting showcases throughout the week featuring Megafauna, Residual Kid, Summer Salt and more.
