The Pecan Street Festival is the largest, and longest-running, of Texas’ arts/crafts and music festivals, and very likely in the nation. It draws nearly 300 local and national arts, crafts and food vendors, +/-50 musical acts and a quarter-million attendees during the weekend. PSF is also a FREE event; one of the few large festivals that can boast this!
Music highlights for this festival include, as with last fall, many female-fronted bands, including Eva Ybarra, Pleasure Venom, Kady Rain, Tahoma, RIDERS AGAINST the STORM (RAS), and Ringo Deathstar. Also joining the festival’s three stages is My Jerusalem, Brainwavve, Cha'keeta Banita, Shapescapes and more, which can be found on our website. The main stage will feature quite a bit of hip hop and R&B.
Our featured artist is Luis Abreux, of Cuban Dog Studios, a Cuban who has lived part-time in Austin since 2005, but recently received his permanent residency. The art for the poster and t-shirt is attached. In this era where non-citizens are political fodder, we want to honor their artistic contributions (our fall artist will also be non-native born).
As we’ve pursued since 2009, the PSF is one the “greenest” festivals around; aiming to lower our impact on the environment through recycling, bio-diesel fuel and other efforts.
