    About

Austin Museum Day is one of the great things Austinites look forward to each fall. This year, forty-five museums in the greater Austin area will welcome visitors with special programming, including guided exhibition tours, hands-on activities, and more, for visitors of all ages. With only a limited amount of time, it’s hard to see it all, but we're going to do our best to check them out this Sunday. Of course, with 30,000 people expected to participate, it might be a little easier if we leave our cars at home....

MAKE IT A SMART TRIP! Capital Metro, in conjunction with Smart Trips Austin invite you for a Transit Adventure, with a guided ride, trip plans and free Local Day Passes so you can spend more time exploring museums than parking lots!

AUSTIN MUSEUM DAY is a longstanding collaboration among Austin’s cultural institutions that invites the public to experience for the first time, or to rediscover, the dynamic, high-quality resources at museums in their community. Last year, nearly 30,000 area residents visited their community museums on Austin Museum Day.

SMART TRIPS AUSTIN is a collaboration between the City of Austin and Capital Metro that aims to reduce single occupant vehicle trips and increase trips taken by foot, bike, bus or shared car. Participants in the Zilker, Bouldin Creek and Travis Heights neighborhoods who sign-up can order resources like maps, brochures, and special rewards and will be invited to neighborhood walks, social bike rides, and transit adventures through the end of January 2018.

TRANSIT ADVENTURES is a transportation demand management (TDM) program designed to increase transit ridership and reduce parking demand among participants. Capital Metro hosts the program to provide transit training in a risk-free, low-stakes environment for groups of 10 - 40 people and can organize a team-building trip for FREE for your office, neighborhood group, organization, church or school using our transit services.
