Austin Unconducted presents an evening of sound and music curated by Austin-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist: Daniel Fears. We will explore the boundaries between classical music and R&B, creating pairings inspired by dub and traditional West African percussion music, in an effort to expand the notion of what music can be. Daniel’s songs will be paired with music by Johann Sebastian Bach (d. 1750), Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson (d. 2004), and Charlton Singleton (b. 1971), as well as newly composed transitions between the pieces by members of Austin Unconducted. We are thrilled to present this program to you, we hope to see you there!

About the curator:
Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Fears is obsessed with evolving – finding new ways to express emotion and feeling. Fears grew up appreciating different musical worlds: the Christian and Gospel music of his family; the R&B, soul, and hip hop his friends introduced to him; and the classical music he studied at The University of Texas and Yale University.
This diverse musical upbringing brought about a desire to collaborate with a wide variety of instrumentalists, artists, and creatives. In the last 2 years he's collaborated and/or partnered with KUTX, KMFA, Austin Classical Guitar, and the American Music Abroad program.

About Austin Unconducted:
Austin Unconducted is a democratic orchestra formed in 2022 by a group of young professional musicians with a desire to present classical music in a way that is relatable, fresh, and fun. Rather than working with a conductor, our 18 string musicians collaborate and work with local artists to design and perform concerts that truly reflect the voice and energy of the city of Austin. 2023-2024 marks our second full season of concerts that double as social events, inviting Austinites to gather and immersing them in both old and new music in a way unlike they have experienced before. Unconfined by tradition, unafraid to feature unheard voices, & unapologetically Austin, we are keeping music current.
Austin Unconducted is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that builds community by creating inclusive, immersive, and relevant concert experiences that engage diverse audiences. As a cooperative orchestra, we re-examine the long arc of musical tradition through a contemporary lens with performances that promote equity and generate new excitement for art music in our ever changing city.
This project has been financed in part by the City of Austin’s Live Music Fund Event Program and also in part by Austin Community Foundation.
