The Bastrop Juneteenth Celebration committee has been observing the emancipation of African Americans and the contributions and accomplishments of local African American individuals for the past 36 years. This year, they continue this journey of observation with the Family Freedom Festival.
On Saturday, June 17, there will be a friends and family meet and greet. This is an opportunity to meet up with friends and family coming in and from out of town. Family reunion committees' can use this event to do registrations and distribute t-shirts and weekend information. This time will also be used to observe the Emile School Reunion committee.
The official Bastrop Juneteenth Celebration will kick off on Saturday, June 17, with a celebration parade hosted down historic Main Street. Parade participants will show off and display their various organizations and affiliations. There will be different categories being represented in celebration of African American culture. The day continues with the Bastrop Juneteenth Celebration Family Freedom Festival at Fisherman's Park a.k.a. "the Boat Docks." Head to the park for an afternoon and evening of fun for the whole family. There will be live music and a DJ playing throughout the day, food and small business vendors, kids and adult activities and family competitions. There will be a musical guest in the evening to wrap up the festivities.
