    About

In order to ensure the safety and health of all our campers, staff and volunteers, Girls Rock Austin has transformed our award-winning, an in-person camp experience to an online platform so campers can feel like a rockstar.

The Virtual Girls Rock Camp sessions (for ages 8-17) will include live instrument instructions, collaborative workshops and a livestream showcase at the end of each session. In addition to online courses, all camper receive their very own GRA Jam Book, an interactive music manual, activity book and journal to keep them inspired long after camp is over. GRA will also provide all musical instruments and necessary gear for any Austin-area campers that need them.

GRA Virtual Camp Session 1: Monday, July 13th – Friday, July 17th, 2020
Online Showcase: Saturday, July 18th, 2020

GRA Virtual Camp Session 2: Monday, July 20th – Friday, July 24th, 2020
Online Showcase: Saturday, July 25th, 2020

The GRA Virtual Camp is for girls, trans and gender-expansive youth, ages 8 to 17. Experienced instructors provide one-on-one lessons virtually on guitar, bass, percussion, keyboards, or voice. No musical experience is necessary (we love beginners). Campers are then placed into a band of their peers where they share their ideas and collaborate to write original songs as well as experience enriching live and pre-recorded workshops that campers can do on their own schedule (to avoid screen fatigue). These workshops are designed to expand their knowledge on various topics and cultivate discussions about about issues relevant to them. The camp week ends on Saturday with a performance showcase online where the campers will debut their original songs works.

We understand that every family’s financial situation is different, especially now during the age of COVID-19. GRA firmly believes financial, physical, and social barriers shouldn’t prevent anyone from gaining the self-esteem that comes from creative expression, thus provide scholarships and tuition assistance and free meals to any camper in need. We highly encourage parents and guardians to apply for full or partial financial assistance if needed (the amount of tuition you're able to pay neither increases or decreases your child's chances of getting accepted into any programs). If you would like to apply for financial aid, you can fill out an application at www.girlsrockaustin.org/financial-aid-application/.

The GRA Virtual Camp is much more than a rock camp — it is a mentorship and social justice organization. We believe that creativity, positivity, and community are key elements of personal and collective empowerment and positive social change.

Alumnae and their parents report that GRA's unique program changed their lives, and after camp they feel more inclined to try new things; creatively, academically, and socially. Participants are more confident and expressive, have better teamwork and collaboration skills, and are more prepared to navigate life’s challenges. Many of our campers come away from our programs with adult mentors and peer bonds that continue years after camp.

Don't wait, register your child now as spots are limited! Apply now at girlsrockaustin.org/camps-and-other-programs.
