KING, an Austin-based nonprofit that provides free, weekly, one-on-one mentorship through music education to Central Texas youth in foster care, presents its seventh annual fundraising luncheon, Music Matters. Each fall, KING showcases how the power of music - and those who share it - enriches the lives of youth in foster care through its one-of-a-kind program. The luncheon will feature a message from keynote speaker, Myra Gleason, musician, and foster care advocate. Myra has spent 10 years working with children in foster care in Portland, utilizing music as a means to move trauma and embrace the emotional complexities many faces while in the system. While encouraging audiences to embrace their own tender area of development, she aims to help others realize the traumas and victories that tie us all together.
