Austin,Tx: Cloud Tree Studios & Gallery announces Of The Land an exhibit of new works by local ceramic sculptor Alejandra Almuelle. It will be on view September 5th to 26th
This exhibit explores clay in its varied states, from mud, to raw, to the fired state that turns clay into ceramics.
Here, Almuelle uses fresh clay to create an installation formed by hand to contrast with a wall piece consisting of a series of discs harvested unaltered from local clay sediment.
These two installations with a series of cephalic vessels bring the human presence, not as a protagonist of landscape, but as a commentary of the body as place and receptacle of memory, like the land itself.
Almuelle, originally from Peru, has established her home in Austin working as a ceramicist. Addressing the functionality of the medium as well as its sculptural expression has been equally important for her. She has participated in shows in galleries, museums and art fairs with both pottery and sculpture. Almuelle’s solo show Journey was awarded “ Best Solo Show of the Year” by the Austin Critic Table Awards.
This project is supported in part by the CULTURAL ARTS DIVISION OF THE CITY OF AUSTIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENTView Map
