October 10, 2017, Austin, TX -- Parts & Labour is pleased to present One Last Thing, an art installation by artist Jon Lawrence. The exhibit will run from October 28th until November 14th. Opening reception is Saturday, October 28th from 6PM until 9PM in the Parts & Labour Gallery at 1704 S. Congress Avenue.
A decade in the making, the artist will showcase a retrospective install of mixed media, pen ink, photography, silk screen and found objects. Accomplishing a flow of urban distress, design, placement, and thought, Jon Lawrence transforms each urban-inspired piece into narratives that explore unconventional intersections of brokenness and healing.
“I am proud to present Jon’s art in our gallery,” said co-owner Lizelle Villapando. “We exist for the community of local artists and crafters, and Jon was one of the first designers whose pieces we carried in our shop. He was number 42, to be exact. Thirteen years later, we are now at number 811.”
Parts & Labour, a Texas-based craft store located in Austin’s popular South Congress area, prides itself in supporting local artists and crafters since its inception in 2004. All items in the store are made by local artists and designers who bring their uniqueness into the store’s brand.
Now Jon Lawrence returns to Parts & Labour as the store’s featured artist in its gallery.
“My pieces represent objects found, a majority of which appear to be plucked from generations past,” said the artist. “They are evidence of a transition from lost to found, damaged to rearranged, all curated without polishing off their rust. The pieces on display will maintain a pastoral tone so that it could prompt viewers to consider a journey of recovery, or perhaps even resurrection.”
The exhibition will run from October 28th until November 14th. Jon Lawrence will be present at the opening reception Saturday, October 28th from 6PM til 9PM. This is a free event and proceeds will benefit SafePlace.
