We invite the Austin & Texas community to come together (virtually) to weave stars for the One Million Stars to End Violence Project – Texas – and to continue to grow star weaving communities throughout Texas to support the One Million Stars project. It is not necessary that you live in Texas to participate.

Star weaving workshops are free, recommended age 12+

Para tejer una estrella se necesita:4 listones o tiras de papel de 1 pulgada de ancho y 22 pulgadas de largo más o menos. Todos del mismo largo un par de tijeras.

Supplies: Any of the following materials can be used to weave stars: ribbon, paper, newspaper, wrapping paper or native grasses that have a wide flat leaf. Anything you have available at home should work. As long as the lengths and widths of your 4 strands are the same, you can weave a star! In the star weaving video and PDF tutorial, the ribbon stands are 22 inches x 1 inch. You will also need a pair of scissors. Each star is woven with 4 strands.

This project will be ongoing for two years. We will have a small-scale star installation in summer 2021 and a larger-scale installation in 2022. For your stars to be included in the initial installation, please send them before June, 2021. Message Melissa to arrange pick up or delivery of stars - melissa@batikbydesign.com
