Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, PG Anna is a very lonely foster child, talented in drawing, but incapable of making friends. Her “aunt” sends the young girl to live with family friends in a coastal village with hopes of easing her asthma attacks. In her wanderings she discovers a mansion where a girl named Marnie lives. Soon they are best friends who share secrets and adventures.
