Join us for RISE! - an evening celebrating Austin’s Black freedom communities. The event will feature an excerpt from the film Rise, followed by a panel discussion exploring the rich history of these communities that emerged in Austin after emancipation and Juneteenth, the importance of fostering unity, and stories from the descendants of Austin’s Black freedom communities. At this event, you will enjoy DJ sets by Sunday Sessions, Poetry by Stephanie Lang, Zell Miller III, and Harve Franks, and drumming by Afrique Gninze. Food options will include Mama Jambalaya, Big Mayne BBQ, and Mariachi Tex Mex.
